Foley Artist & Sound Editor
Mike Horton is a Los-Angeles based Foley artist and editor with over 15 years' experience cueing, performing, recording, editing, mixing and conforming bespoke sounds for film, television, and interactive media. He has collaborated with academy award-winners and titans of industry to help realize their sonic visions. Producing thunderous sounds beyond the expected realm of Foley, he has created the illusion of exploding mountains, towering monsters, and swirling tornadoes. He excels at creating subtle textures and realistic sounds that breathe life into the visuals and blend seamlessly into the production track. As an editor he is a proponent of high dynamic range, bringing attention to the single most important thing happening on screen at any moment – if everything is loud, nothing is loud!
Sound You Can Feel
More importantly, he is constantly aware of the thing that really matters – the story! Every auditory decision is motivated by the desire to make the audience feel – a suspenseful creak, a laughable squeak, cringeworthy gore, or the tension of a hand squeezing around the protagonist’s neck. Inspiring emotion is what separates a craftsperson from an artist, and this philosophy is always at the forefront. From the first footstep to the final pickups for the last (hopefully) picture change.
